Anybody using them? -- I can do about octave and 1/2 but can't manage a fill 2 octave flexando--I use my tongue to make them happen. That's not exactly Caruso but then he never said you couldn't. |

I do them almost every day--at least 2 or 3 of the exercises.
What exactly do you mean you can't manage the two-octave ones? _________________ Scott

I've been doing them since I started Flexus.
Long ago Leon Rapier had me practice a very similar exercise which he said he learned from Robert Nagel.
Like they say in the book, I think the key is in keeping the blow steady. Whenever the glisses don't work for me I find that I usually had some kind of hitch in my blowing. |

Hi,
I love the moment where I get to play those. For me those exercises are a test whether my chops are ready for the day. I played similar exercises from the BE book (rips) and modified them in all kinds of ways and I use them as a test in a warming up. Just a few of them give me a nice centered and controlled feeling.
The staedy blow is maybe not quite how I play them, more towards the 'snap' in BE, however I try to play them with a more even feeling throughout and that feels equally good. Just to get them to speak I put a mean snap on the highest note.
