Hi everyone
What do you drink before you work on the upper register? I drink Captin Morgan. I used to drink Crown Royal but I have enough Gershwin style mutes to last a life time. I try vodka before playing Russian music, except when I play Tchikovsky then I drink a "fruity" drink.

Does this thread really have anything important to add to range development or is this just to fulfil curiousity? I know that some guys say that they have better upper register with a bit of a buzz going but I attribute that to being more relaxed. If in fact that is the case, a couple of beers or a glass or two of wine does the trick for me!

Hi,

I remember back in my wild bar band dayzzzz (or should I say--NIGHTS) a particularly polluted night when I finished with a high note at the end of a solo . . .

and did the "Maynard thing" of throwing the arms apart into a high "V" after "kissin' off the high note" . . .

and watched my pristine, two-year old, 1973 LA Benge go floating through the air and travel across the bandstand.

Well . . . it crashed atop the snare drum . . . much to the surprise of the drummer . . . and evidently made a perfect landing . . . for, in the harsh light of the next day . . . not a dent or a bend was to be seen!!!

At the time though, I could just slurrrrr out, "#@%* #@*&! . . . I just @#@* up my horn!" . . .

and I was too stoned and totally drunk to focus my eyes well enough to see if anything was wrong that night.

Yeah . . . I played GREAT in those dayzzzzz . . . its too bad the live recordings of those sessions seem to say otherwise! One thing for sure . . . we sure were a partyin' band!

These days I play stone sober but really enjoy watching totally dignified adults change into slobbering monsters and buffoons.

Also, to avoid replacing any more expensive leadpipes . . . and to make my horns last and perform longer . . . good ol' water has been found to be best for both the horn and me.

Hope you enjoyed the true story!

Tom
