The author of How to Debate a Creationist, Michael Shermer debated Kent Hovind last year at the University of California at Irvine. The debate will be re-aired on Sky Angel satellite TV channel 9702 April 10, 10pm-12am. This channel is CTN, WCLF TV 22, Clearwater FL, though the advertisement didn't say so the special might be on CTN stations as well. The program title is Creation Science vs. Evolution Debate. Shermer is the founding publisher of Skeptic magazine and Skeptic Society director so it should prove to be interesting to any who are willing to consider both sides of this important issue. _________________ Ed Taylor . . . a Messianic gentile |

How did the debate turn out?
I really don't know, probably both sides feel well about it. I don't think there is a declared victor. Often exit polls indicate that the creationist wins, but creationists (or at least open minded students) may outnumber the evolutionists in attendance. _________________ Ed Taylor . . . a Messianic gentile |

Darwin believed in the spontaneous creation of life. For instance, people of his time thought maggots were naturally spawned out of rotting meat.
Darwin also thought the fossil record would have completely documented his theories by now.
Darwin was working with many flawed assumptions.
Also, there needs to always be a distinction between micro and macro evolution. One is documented Scientific fact and the other is a dying theory.
Those hoping to cover every nook and cranny of science with the Bible will be disappointed as will those looking to rule out God's creative hand with Darwin.
We should make what we can out of evolutionary science and quit trying to make it an excuse to live Godlessly (it's a bad one) or a flashpoint to ignite those with a strict and literal interpretation of the Bible.

Not true. If you read "Origin of the Species", you will find that the biggest denouncer of Darwin's theory was himself.
In fact, Darwin was a devout Christian for most of his life and believed in God. The people that came about after him and believed his theory have made him into something he is not. |

You don't need an excuse, and there's nothing wrong with not believing.
Each to their own. |

Most debates are structured around logical and methodical thought processes, using repeatable observable evidence as a basis for opinions.
You can't really have a mature discussion like that with somebody who doesn't allow evidence to inform our beliefs. |

The remark about Darwins' religious beliefs is not quite accurate, or maybe better to say a little misleading. Here's a link to a good article on the subject:
http://www.christiananswers.net/q-aig/darwin.html
or Google it for a more secular source.

LOL thats like saying we should believe in the spontaneous creatiion of a awesome jazz star! No work involved? Cmon
You cant debte a creationist cuz creation is based on faith so dont bother.
I recently saw a cool movie called Contact with Jodi Foster and there was this poignant line it that I will always remember.
Jodi's character was a evolutionist & she was one of those scientific nerds that had to prove everything. A creationist asked her...
'do you love your father?'
She says 'yes'
The creationist says 'prove it' _________________ I don't care if a dude is green with pink breath, as long as he can swing. Miles Davis
