Did Caruso ever comment on the use of vibrato during the practicing of his excersises? Is it OK, or should the excersises be played with a straight tone?

It never came up in my lessons. I would say that vibrato is an aspect of musical style and with calisthenic practice we aren't practicing any type of style. We are working on the basic skills of the instrument.

That's Pat talking, not Carmine.
