Can someone reccommend a piece for C trumpet appropriate for an adv. high school student? I would like one that is technically difficult, has musicality, and doesnt go above concert G, A at the most. (My range is rather weak... but thats for another topic) Thanx

Stuart

You may want to try the "Hammersmiths Gallop" by Hugo Cole. It does not go very high and is relatively easy to learn. You can listen to it on the CD called Trumpet Miniatures by Dr. Mortenson

try anything by the french school of composers, Bozza, Bitsch, Balay, Defossez, Buesser - almost all of their pieces were written for trumpet in C, and come with Bb versions on the reverse. You could also try, Prelude et Allegro by Donato.

One piece that isn't too hard, but sounds VERY nice is Caprice by Joseph Turrin. Range-wise I think it goes up to C#... You can do it on Bb or C...
