I've started playing cornet & was wondering where to find music for it. Of course I have the Arbans solo Cornet stuff, & Orchestral Excerpts, but I would like to work on some of the solo cornet music in the British Brass band style. I love the stuff the British Brass bands do but it's hard to find parts for it over here in the US.
Where can I find that style?
What is your favorite cornet solo literature?
Thanks,
Kevin |

Hi Kevin
Try
http://www.wrightandround.com
They publish lots of old brass band stuff.
There are "easier" air varies like, Weidekher (sp), The Caledonian, Russia, etc. Polkas like the Nightingale, Hailstorm etc and the more difficult air varies like Hartmanns Rule Britannia, Rimmers' or Arbans' Venice etc.
Slow melodies such as the Lost Chord and Macushla are old favourites but it's hard for the late thirty somethings like me to get excited about these pieces as Venice, Rule Britannia were the stuff of solo competitions as a kid and you had to be able to play them. Boy those "audiences" of brass band players could be tough.
hope this helps
