Today, on the way home, driving my alley of hell...up southcenter hell, hill!

Under the seat of car (after SLAMMMING ON THE BRAKES) outslides this very dusty old tape with scribbled and smudged lettering...saying
"SIDEWINDER" by Randy Brecker?????
HUH?
ANYHOOO, THIS WAS TRULY A BLESSING FROM THE GOOD LORD ABOVE!!!

This tape on one cut...had the most powerful heavy driving and sounding bass, along with a HEART-POUNDING DRUM SOLO ....like none other next a huge sounding berry sax in FULL BLOWHONK-N'HOOT...AND TO ADD ICING ON ALL THIS....
NEXT IN COMES THIS HUGE PAINTSTRIPPIN' SCORCHING HIGH ENERGY TRUMPET?????

After playing it at FULL VOLUME...DEAD STOPPED IN TRAFFIC!!!
(Why I wasn't shot by the rough lookin'truck driver(God only knows) next to me, and the gent. with the cell phone in front of me, that had his cell phone stuck in his ear that caused the mess in the first place.( Bless him anyway as without his mistake and my "PANIC STOP" this old tape would still be hid forever under the drivers seat of the old ZX..

Time flew all the rest of the way home.

OK!!! WHAT CD??? ANY GUESS??? DID I MISS MARK THE LABEL???

My guess that it could have been on an old
RANDY MEETS RANDY..CD??? ANY IDEAS???

I recorded this from a library Cd, I would bet was over a couple of years ago. I also had a wonderful rendition of Sandoval...just before this song of Aurtro playing another equally wonderful rendition of I REMEMBER CLIFFORD.
but the next song..with the messy hand written labeling " SIDEWINDER by BRECKER.
I just gotta find this CD again.
Ah the paint fumed brain is slowly clearing.
Thanks to the internet, I will type in Randy Brecker!!! DAAAAAA!!!!

"The Sidewinder" is a Lee Morgan tune.

Maybe you have a recording of Randy Brecker covering it?

SIDEWINDER/LEE MORGAN...for sure and in fact. I love that CD, especially on one cut where Lee is asking someone whether or not he should "stand a little closer when its time to take his solo!"
but still, I can not put the re-vamped SIDEWINDER THANG' together????
or who what or from the CD that this was re-recorded from????
All I can say: The trumpet really RIPPPPPS, as well as the drummer and bold Sax part.

In fact....Randy Brecker has such condensed discog. that even his old Brecker meets Brecker wasn't listed (maybe with all my missing brain cells..even that isn't the title name for Randy's CD? After searching for Sandoval...I couldn't find that he EVER RECORDED A SIDEWINDER version of Lee's orginal...Hummm.
My search continues....I just wish this old tape was in better condition after being lost under the seat for such a looooooooooooong time.

You guys ever see the Brecker bros in concert? High energy. I saw them ten years ago down in Hermosa Beach, can't recall the name of the club.

I remember what a wake-up call it was to be exposed to "Some skull funk" back in eighty. That, Supersax "salt peanuts" and Chase "pure music" is what I listened to.

Sindwinder solo by Lee has been transcribed many times. What a solo.

I like the Brecker song "On the backside" now. Tasty hip hop feel to it.

I think there was a "Tribute to Lee Morgan" type CD with covers by by different players.

Not sure but I'll check my collection.

I can't find any Randy version of the tune.

On the 1994 Lee Morgan Tribute album there is a Sidewinder by Eddie Henderson & Grover Washington. There is also a Claudio Roditi album of Lee Tunes. Maybe it is one of those?

Thanks for taking the time to research this. It's not a Claudio but I have listen and recorded Grover's recordings from time to time...from Library CDs.

Tonight, I'll listen again to my Morgan recording and try to make a comparison.
Lately, I have been having more than my share of "senior moments" and with this in mind, anything is possible. Wouldn't I be amazed if this turns out to be simply................Morgan's original recording? I just don't remember ever taping this indiviual cut from the CD!
Too many high notes...and too much "sniffing of airbrushes fumes" may be the bottom line here and all that jazz?
