Anyone got recommendations as to who might be a really good teacher on the southside of Atlanta, GA? Comebacker here looking for a good teacher to help with developing better tone. Interested in playing jazz/ballads.
Thanks for any help!

RA --
Not far away (Griffin, I believe?) is Tom Turner, a regular poster on this site. His playing is very well matched to what you're after, I believe. Plus, Tom is a true gentleman and a fantastic player. Here is his profile:

Good luck!

Alex Yates is a fine trumpet teacher. She is also on this site once in a while.
For jazz stuff, Gordon Vernick at Georgia State is excellent. |

Alex lives way north of town, so it might be out of the question. I don't know if she does much, if anything, in jazz, so that is worth considering as well.
Gordon would be a great choice... DUH, I should have thought about that to begin with! He is in the union book...PM or email me, and I'll give you his contact info.
Another guy to consider is Joe Gransden. He has a few students on the side, and he loves teaching jazz. If you've never heard him, you should go to Churchill Grounds on Wednesday night sometime and check him out. Really tasty!

Gordon lives a bit east of the city (near Stone Mountain), and I'm pretty sure that Joe lives north of Atlanta (though I'm basing that more on where his wife teaches than actually talking to him). You should definately check him out though. I've played with him a few times, and though I always expect what he plays to be tasty and to swing harder than just about anyone else, he always suprises me with some ridiculously hip stuff. I should see him more so that at some point I'll stop being suprised (if you go to his website you'll see why it suprises me. It's mainly singing, and it's all very polished).
