Greetings, TPINers...

Another Chet Baker transcription: "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To", from
the Jim Hall recording "Concierto", compliments of Chicago jazz guitarist
Michael Petterson.

The transcription is in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format.

As always, recent additions can be found at

http://www.shout.net/~jmh/#recent

This particular transcription's permanent home can be located in the Chet
Baker portion of the website at

http://www.shout.net/~jmh/baker/transcriptions.htm

More examples of Michael Petterson's work can be found at

http://www.freddiegreen.org/

Enjoy!

Jeff, thanks for making your transcriptions available, I love checking out the new solos you are constantly putting up-I'm always digging up the recording and then wondering why I never transcribed it myself.

I would like to second Kurt's comments. Your web pages are some of the most valuable one out there for me. Often, after seeing a solo transcription I am motivated to purchase the recording in order to receive the full impact of the transcription.

Jeff:

Great work! Your transcriptions are wonderful. Wish my charts were as clean and neat. You've either got the steadiest hand in the biz, or you're using a music-writing program. If it's the latter, which one?
Thanks, Rusty Russell

I do have pretty good manuscript, but almost all the transcriptions on my site were typeset using Finale 2002.

I did it this way because the PDFs look a ton better and are much more compact than JPEGs or PDFs from scanned images.

Thanks, Jeff. I figured it might be Finale or similar. Gotta check it out; do you know if it's available for PC, or is it just a Mac thing?

I've had Finale for years. It's available for PC and Mac; there are some cheaper versions, too, including the free download of Notepad. There's also a new upgrade to Notepad; costs $10 U.S. but adds the ability to read and write Midi files, which I suspect makes it good enough for most of us. The full version of Finale is best purchased via your school or church -- about 1//2 off that way.

FWIW, Sibelius has been getting a lot of press for being easier to use than Finale. All I know about it is what I've heard, though; Finale is what most (but certainly not all) of the people I "know" use. In the past few years Coda has vastly improved the Finale interface, making it much easier to use than it used to be (competition can be good).
