All of Mendez's solos sound like they have their own genre.
How would you explain his music in genre? _________________ "If you don't like my fire...then don't come around" Ben Harper. |

His own compositions are "popular Spanish" style. |

Like many of you, I have listened to a seemingly infinite number of trumpet players' recordings, and about Mendez, I've always had this to say: He's the only trumpet player I've ever heard that never played a note that he didn't firmly intend to play; Ever.....
I would call his style: Perfect. Period. _________________ Sparks in Daytona

On a technical level, he may be the greatest trumpeter ever. The Rafael Mendez Library has lots of tapes and high school and college band recordings (vanity LPs) with him soloing with various groups. Wow.
He sounds EXACTLY like he does on his Decca recordings. |

Don't forget inspiring and disheartening all at the same time. I agree, though. Absolute perfection. |
