I have been working on the Mendez Scherzo in D. I have tried triple tonguing it (TTK) and Double tonguing it. Both seem to work. Which way would be the BEST way to play this piece? Just wondering what some other people are doing. I am by no means an experianced player.

Thanks for your thoughts

Vince

Mendez double-tounged it.

When I recorded it for Crystal Records about 28 years ago (with piano), I double-tongued it, too. . . just not as well as RM did!!

It works better for me if I double tongue it. In addition to Mendez, David Hickman has an excellent recording of it.

Hey thanks for the advice. I have the recording of Professor Hickman playing it, it sounds pretty sweet. Are there any recordings of Mendez playing the Scherzo that have been converted to CD that anyone could recommend?

Summit Records and the Mendez family worked for years to get Universal/MCA (owns Decca) to license all of Mendez' LPs to Summit. This finally happened about ten years ago. All 12 LPs were reissued on 12 CDs. The license was good for five years only.

No one has them for sale now. We are looking into a second license but it could be a while.

Let us hope for a second license. There is too much great music to not be heard. For now I guess I could probably look on Ebay or something like that.

Thanks for your help
