I'm looking to buy an Eb soprano cornet for brass band purposes. Can anyone share judgment on the following three models? I've read the manufacturer's descriptions but I'm looking for expertise from people that have actually played these instruments.

Yamaha YCR-8620S (new Xeno line)
Schilke-(most expensive)
Kanstul ZKC-1536S-(least expensive)

They are all within about $270 of each other so the money really isn't the issue. Is one a better horn than the other two....and no, I can't afford a Blackburn.

thanks!

Peter Roberts plays a Schilke. Enough said.

I've played the Schilke and the older (non - Xeno) Yami sops. The Schilke is heads above the Yami in every way. Haven't played the Kanstul. You might also want to look at the Courtois, the new Getzen, and the Smith -Watkins. Check out the review of the Courtois on 4BarsRest web site listed below.

I played sop. cornet in a very fine band for a few years.

I started on the Kanstul.......... loved the way it played

I ended up playing the Schilke as it had the 'sound' that I needed/wanted for brass band work.

Cheers,
Ted

1. Rob a bank.
2. Buy a Blackburn.

I had a chance to play one of these and it almost drove me to a life a crime.

Thanks,
Robert

Does Roy Lawler make an Eb cornet? If he doesn't now, didn't he used to?
I haven't gotten to play the new Getzen Eb yet, but (with one exception), I'm a big fan of the other Getzen Custom horns I've had the chance to play, so I'd recommend trying the Getzen Eb if you get the chance. Their Custom Bb cornet has a great sound and feel.
