Instead of having forums for all these various and assundry topics, why not create a series of reference pages for them, like a FAQ. Have a special topic for everyone to contribute their ideas. Get a couple of the more experienced/respected posters, in addition to yourself, to weed out the bad suggestions and post them. Then you can update them every year or so. Maybe you could create a forum and post them as a locked topic with a moderator who could update them and answer questions. This would eliminate a lot of the repetitive posting on here.

From my experience, many of the repetitive questions happen because SOME new readers don't take the time to read past advice on the forum. There's a lot of good dialogue that is still good months after it was written if people would browse through it.

Sometimes I suspect some of the questions that keep popping up come from folks who are just plain lazy . . . and there ain't a cure for that! Some questions could easily be answered (horn model numbers, specs., mouthpiece information) simply by using a search engine that would pull up the manufacturer's website nearly instantly.

However, its still a pleasure to help those I can . . . I just smile, shake my head, do three minutes of research and write an answer. There's an old saying that "To Teach Is To Learn Twice," so it is to my benefit to learn or re-learn this information they want.

....There's SO much great information on TH that as a new user it's diffcult to know where to start.

Maybe as part of FAQ page the webmaster could produce a quick ''how to use the site' section.

That's if they could find the time

I use the search facilty a lot, also if you click on someones profile you can 'view posts by that user'. I find that useful to get a exra perspective on the problem/person and evaluate whether i have appropriate advice or content to add to the thread. And to re read/find advice already given from e.g a particular user with a particular perspective.

It is a shame that at the moment the old forum isn't on the database as this would provide newer members a valuable insight of preceeding discussions and older members can review replies/posts of the past.
