I'm surprised this has not yet been mentioned on this forum. I bought a bottle at the Midwest Conference... wow. What's best is that it is completely organic - no petroleum even. Nothing to get in my lungs and make it even harder to breathe... anyway.. here's the link if anyone wants to check it out.

No.. I'm not getting paid. It is just working great so far for me.

yes i definitly agree! been using this for almost a year since emile gave me a sample and i find it to work as well as anything else out there with the added benefit of being eco-freindly. it's definitly less messy and has a nice clean lemony scent to it as well.

I wouldn't ingest it, though...

Boys, I have it on good authority that this oil is nothing more than rendered weasel fat! (You know.."weasel, the other yellow meat!"). It may be good eatin' when freshly kilt, but that grease'll turn rancid in your valves, I expect.

Hey there Fellers,

Well I'll be....this hear trumpet company has finally cought on to somethin' I've been using for years.....weasel fat. Now, I've not been cookin' it down enought to make it into an oil, but it sure does werk great for me as slide grease! I figured it out when I was at Talledega watchin' some test runnin' one day. I kept gettin' down neear the pits and shouting to the crews askign them what they was usin on they're axels. The feller kept shoutin sumthin about a weasel at me, so I figured I'd go home and try it. Like SHemp hear, I had some in my fridge. Also, since I play a Wild Thing trumpet I figured that I should used a "wild thing" to lube it up. Some how it just seemed fitting. Anyway, I cooked it down.....the dogs sure ran like hell from the kitchen....and put it on and my oh my does this stuff werk. Now I don't really catch me enough weasels to make this something I can make for many people, but if any of you want some gimme a shout. Weasel's really pretty tasty to. I like to make mine in a simbple stew...carrots, onion, garlic, salt pepper, taters, celery and some curry powder. How do you make yours Shemp? Now I do't know anything about this hear company making the valve oil. They must have a weasel farm or something, cause I never get more than about ten of em a year. I mainly hunt koons....a little more meat ya know. Anyway, the only connection I can see is that Weasel makes me Berp.....is that where they got that there name?

Have a good one Fellers.

Just got a used bach C in the mail. After using Hetman on the valves, they immediately gummed up and were practically immovable. I contacted the seller, who told me he had been using the BERP bio oil. Be careful with this oil if you mix with other lubricants!!!!!!!!

I'm a complete convert to Berp Bio Oil now. It's the only oil I've tried thus far that works great on ALL of my different horns, outlasts others that I've tried, and I also appreciate that it's made from canola and has a nice citrus scent, too.

Actually, it's made from soy. And you must clean your valves with soap and water to remove all other traces of previous lubricants before applying this incredible product!!

This stuff is fantastic!

Nope, not based on a somewhat recent e-mail exchange with their company. They said that they used to use soy, but found canola oil to be superior to soy. There was this discrepancy on their vs. Canadian Brass' websites. They've since updated their info, or should have.

Maybe you did. I bought 6 bottles about 3 weeks ago from Canadian Brass. Their website says, "now made from canola, a renewable resource grown and manufactured in the U.S.A." Berp's own website avoids using the words "soy" and "canola," and instead simply says, "A non-petroleum, non-synthetic biodegradable lubricant for the valves of brass instruments."

A guy at TrumpetMaster and I had this discussion. He e-mailed the company, and that's where he got the above info re: no longer using soy. Did you buy from Berp or Canadian Brass, or elsewhere?

Berp's website also says, "It is recommended that you clean your instrument as you normally would every two weeks or so to prevent build-up. BerpBioOil does not evaporate the same way as petroleum-based oils." I never clean my horn this often. I hope this doesn't mean that I'm now going to have to (doubt it -- I haven't thus far).

I've been using berp for nearly as long as it has been out. Whenever I re-apply (which is very little), I just thoroughly rinse the valves and valve casings; I don't wash it any more than I used to.

Hack001, thanks for this info. By the way, since you've been using Berp Bio Oil for so long, can you shed any light on the soy vs. canola oil issue for DezynGuy, me, and whoever else might be curious? In either case, I love this stuff (duh, I just bought 6 more bottles a few weeks ago). It works great on ALL of my horns.

Thanks.

They haven't used soy for a while. I always order straight from the Berp website. I think I remember them saying that canola was a better, more consistent base than soy. I've found that the canola-based oil is slightly more viscous than the soy-based oil.

I used to use Berp oil. I had some valve corrosion issues and Berp took care of that for me.

It worked amazingly well for a while. But after many months of use, it gummed up my valves so that they just plain stuck all the time.

A tech suggested that the Berp oils build up a film over time. Also, since it's made of natural materials, they can break down over time and if you buy an old bottle that's been sitting around a while it can perform very poorly.

I had my horns professionally cleaned and switched to Yamaha synthetic oil and have been very happy since.

per josh landress brass...berp is way too thick for new modern horns. it is basically for old vintage horns. large tolerances in the valve block only. hetman one cleared up all my problems with my adams a9. and is recomended for new horns by landress brass.

I just grab a possum out of the yard, squeeze him really hard and quirt his stuff into my valves. Never a problem. Don't know what you guys are talkin' about. Maybe it's time to ferget the fancy stuff and just get back to where you started.
