Can anyone suggest a trumpet teacher in the Columbus, Ohio, area? I'm a 51-year-old student who started lessons six years ago, plays in a community band, and who suddenly finds himself in need of a reliable and seasoned teacher.

You might contact Tim Leasure at The Ohio State U. He is a fine player and would be a great teacher. If he can't work you in, I'm sure he could [point you in the right direction to find one.

Jim Stokes
or
Jim Reed

Both would be excellent choices. I believe they can be contacted though Capitol University.

Jim Reed is as good as it gets. I studied with him for several years and still get together with him whenever I have a chance.

Check out John Harner, he is located in Dayton area so you may have to drive a bit but it is well worth it if you know who Harner is.

These two gentlemen are both excellent, and worth the time to find. Both are students of Mr. Adam, first class men and first class teachers.

IMO, you will not hear a more artistic musician than Jim Reed!! He's a top notch teacher/communicator as well.
I plan on getting together with Jim when I go home to Ohio next month.
Lots of good teachers in Columbus no doubt, but you can't go wrong with Jim Reed.

Yes, if you are interested in getting your commercial chops together, John is the man. I studied with him for a while, no longer do, but it had a huge impact on who I am today. Heck of a guy.

I very highly recommend Dr. Richard Burkart, who lives in Columbus, OH. He has retired now from many years of teaching at the University of Ohio. He is simply a great player, a great teacher, and a wonderful person. I really don't think you could find a better teacher any where.

Just wanted to post a thank you for recommending Jim--he's still teaching (as of 2017), and he's great to learn with.

Played the solo on Kenton's "Send in the Clowns."

ANYONE who played with Kenton is going to be very solid.

Good Morning;

I studied with David Duro for quite a while, when we were both in the North Eastern Ohio area. I'm a state away now, and I believe he is in the Columbus area now. He was always very good at meeting students where they were, and helping them improve.

I was very fortunate to have been able to study with with Jim Stokes and Jim Reed. I believe Jim Stokes is now teaching in WV or VA, but pretty sure Mr. Reed is still in Columbus. Last I studied with him, he was teaching out of his home in Dublin.

Sometimes I shake my head in disbelief when I take stock of my music education.
