Thanks for the PM!
I should explain WHAT these Inserts ARE and WHAT they do for you!
Trumpet manufacturers make trumpets that are tuned much higher than we currently play. In spite of how GREAT these trumepts may "TEST" at the factory, WE have to pull out to play at 442, 440 etc. Further Bach, Yamah etc. have designed the RL, 25H, 25S, 25A, 43, liteweights etc. etc. and diverse lead pipes, and the Tunable Bells (the tuning slide is moved to the Bell side) to help this situation and give us a FREER blowing horn. Regardless of the maker or the design though, we HAVE to pull out! These inserts fill the gaps created when we pull out the tuning slide to play in tune. Pulling out creates these two voids where the bore suddenly becomes larger e.g. .459 enlarges to .508 in a Bach ML, and from .462 to .508 in a CL. and THEN is forced back into the smaller diameter tube again. This creates TWO places where the sound wave, and air stream, are effected adversly to our slotting, pitch, articulation, endurance, upper register, and TONE CENTER. Sometimes we have to FIGHT just to get OUT what we put IN! We have designed, and patented, these inserts as a kit of 6 pieces, 2 at 1/4", 2 at 3/8" and 2 at 1/2" so you can use the size (or next shorter size) that meets your own, individual needs. The Inserts slide in ahead of your tuning slide to fill the GAP! Even if you can not completely eliminate the entire gap, It is much easier to blow across a 1/32" or 1/16" gap that to fight the turbulence of anything larger. Further YOU decide if you want some, more, different ............back pressure by putting them just on top, just on the bottom, etc. etc.
These Inserts have been seeling at WWBW, ACCMusic (in Korea) , on Ebay and on Harrelson Trumpets for some time. Victor

I'd LOVE a set for my Harrelson Muse. Jason sells 'em, so I'm sure some of them have to fit his horns. I have to pull out a good INCH on my horn and thats just annoying, so I'd love some. |

I'm all for a giveaway--as long as I win! I have an ML Bach Strad and a Conn 22b. Have you considered making inserts for flugels? My flugel's a lot more squirrelly than my Bbs.
EDIT: My Bach is an ML 180/37-I didn't realize that the bell size mattered _________________ 1928 Conn 22b

I'd love to try them. The picture you presented shows a conventional tuning slide. Do they work with reverse tuning slides as well? _________________ Pat Shaner

patdublc,
YES these inserts work with REVERSE tuning slide as well.
In that case, the insert(s) would go INTO the tuning slide top tube.

PiCKKanstul,
Thanks for writing! Shall I take your's as a "NO GIVEAWAY" Vote?
It is true, as billyhutch points out, that the condition of your horn does matter. Excess solder, corrosion, crud, mold.......can complicate their use.
Though billyhutch did not get his inserts from me, and I CANNOT swear that they were useable upon receipt.....he should not have had this problem!
I do know of three instances where the inserts were hard to remove....winghorn (in that same link) descibes pretty much the removal method too. Also, you can (easily) purchase the wrong size. Knowing your trumpet is the first step.

it looks like there are precautions to take and everyone who has written about them getting stuck did eventually get them out.
I keep my horns clean and they been checked for solder blobs.. the idea is logical enough.
I'd be game to give them a try.
My C is a mt vernon ML and Bb is Kanstul 1601 |
