I thinned my cornet herd over the past couple years, and am down to 4, the keepers. Circa 1870 Henry Lehnert SARV, 1962 Conn 9A Victor, 1890 F. Besson London A/Bb/C, and 1993 Bach Stradivarius 184G large bore.

Thank you, and sorry for the late reply

Wow! It looks like you found a real beauty in great shape. I haven't seen too many with the custom engraving that goes all the way up the bell.

Congratulations!

Such an old ... but good thread. I thought I'd posted on this before, but didn't see anything, so here are a few of my favs from over the years in my collection past & present:

Marcinkiewicz Rembrandts (Rick Braun with commercial bronze bell)

Adams F1 with red brass bell + silver flair

Romeo Adaci Referenz in bead-blasted gold

Getzen 90PB "Power Bore' after a visit with Tom Green/Green's Buffing (you'll see this same axe in original finish in the early posts on this thread)

@ cyber_shake

I have a soft spot for Rembrandts. Lovely and unique.

Flip Oaks Wild Thing Cornet

Of 109 ever produced, only 9 had the copper bell. Most were silver plated over brass.

Am I the only one who believes that silver plating a two tone horn (Copper Bell, Rose Brass Bell) should be illegal? or at least be considered quite improper. Like ordering a fine steak and pouring Kirkland Catchup upon it?

Flip Oakes Wild Thing Trumpet w/ copper bell (raw)

As some of you might know, I hate raw brass!

The horn was re-lacquered (I had the v2 leadpipe replaced with the original larger v1 leadpipe) at the Kanstul factory not long before they went out-of-business. More than a year later, I had the horn sonic cleaned and the crap lacquer Kanstul was using literally melted off.

What else can I say? The horn still pays great though!

Beautiful instruments, Bill. I’m a big fan of tri-color horns too!

My 1958 Olds Mendez in silver plate. Looks like it might have been engraved by the same artist who did Satchel's Committee. This horn plays even better than it looks.

This is the 2nd and final satin copper belled Marcinkiewicz Rembrandt Rick Braun model made. Rick got 1 and this one was sold by Husonics in FL. I saw it in their sales room at the 2015 ITG. Such a stunning horn:

@cyber_shake

That Rembrandt is gorgeous! I'd love to see and play one, some day. Question: Was the copper bell supplied by Kanstul? Does it have their bronze stipe along the seem? It looks like there are other parts that might have been sourced by Kanstul. Do you know?

This Rembrandt really is a beautiful horn. I checked their website but it says the production is suspended. What is up with that?

Hi Brian,

I don’t know if that brass bumper was a cover for the seam or just protection for the Shepherd’s crook. It was a beautiful finishing detail on the Rick Braun version that was not on my silver ‘regular - non Rick Braun’ Rembrandt.

I know that Joe Marcinkiewicz designed his Shepherd’s Crook shape a bit differently than other makes ... but don’t know if sourced from Kanstul. I just assumed he made them ... Zach Marcinkiewicz could confirm that, I’m sure.

My silver horn had ‘RB’ stamped in the bell logo = red brass bell. My Rick Braun had ‘CB’ = commercial bronze bell. I didn’t own that final Rick B horn pictured, but took pics at ITG and then had Bill at Husonics send me more pics after that event. I should have bought it. That was the final Rick B model made by Marcinkiewicz and the satin finish and copper bell was one of the most beautiful horns I’d seen.

The Rick Braun model had a huge bore leadpipe, ML bore through the rest of the horn until it went large bore on the bell. That was different than the standard Rembrandt design. The silver horn played like the best Bach 37 I’d ever tried. The Rick Braun was better to me, with a more open blow and a warmer overall tone.

Marcinkiewicz still makes mouthpieces, but Joe had a stroke a few years ago and he was the trumpet maker ... thus, no horns have been made since then.

Here are a few other Marcinkieiwicz Rembrandts to enjoy:

They are rare, fairly expensive, and very nice playing trumpets. I hope that many of you get the opportunity to try one at a trumpet hang or elsewhere ... they are special.
