I have been doing the exercises in MCFB for well over a year, with positive results. Slow and steady improvement seems to be the rule, instead of sudden gains. I have noticed that the habit of cheek puffing (slight) has crept into my playing. I can't attribute this directly to the exercises. However, I would like to know if Caruso had ever mentioned cheek puffing, and if so, what he had to say about it.

I have the same exact problem as you. I have been playing Caruso for about 8 months, with great results in all aspects of my playing...Except the annoying cheek thing that has crept into my playing since around December. I have consulted PH about it several times, and he assured me that it's just a symptom of muscles trying to find their balance. A transition. The interesting thing is that the only time the puffing does NOT happen is when I do the 2 pedal drills. I wonder if I should repeat them later on in the day? Would that be unnecessary?

Don't perceive it as a problem. It isn't.

If something is bothering you about your chops, focus more on the subdivision as you do the exercises.
