It is nice to see some new pictures on the old thread.... Although I have pulled right back from my horn safaris I still enjoy looking at trumpet "eye candy". I acquired this old 1926 Martin Handcraft a couple of years ago..

Walter!

I haven't seen a post from you in ever so long. I've missed you, friend.

Dude, mine looks more gnarly than yours! HA!

Joe, I experimented with Tarishield on my raw flugelhorn. I found that it shines up the brass like new. It takes just a little of the patina color out of the copper, but shines it up really well where there is no patina.

Also, it seems that Hands Off! has been working just fine for the year and a half it was on the horn. Since polishing it (thus removing the nano coating), the copper is darkening much faster. Too bad no one was willing to try it out...

Don't tell Dave you put your Monette on a trumpet stand. He will flip.

I talked at length with Jason about that topic and they are not so against putting your horn on a stand anymore. The main reason was as we all fear that some nucklehead will knock it over. I always put my trumpet back in the case before leaving my chair. If I am not next to it, then back in the case......
BTW, Wynton uses a stand for his P3 all the time but I can't get Dave to put a water key on my 3rd slide.

Brian, That photo was taken right after I got the horn back from Kanstul and they had polished it before giving it back to me. A few months have gone by now and it is starting to take on that nice natural ugly patina. I like raw finished horns but to tell you the truth with this flugelhorn I really didn't hear any difference in sound from when it had lacquer.

Hi. nice pics! how would you describe the difference between these? I ask because mine are from similar era: a 132xxx Strad and a L-xxxx Conn.

I just have to include these photos in this thread, as well as the article I wrote, because they should be here! Besides, I think the pics came out well.

Absolutely, whether it's a Monette or not!! I learned that the hard way (twice, slow learner, apparently) many years ago.
