Nowhere in the listing does it say that Mendez played or owned this. Just that it has the Mendez engraving, Mendez mouthpiece, and that it could have been presented to him. In the photo it looks like RM is holding an Olds.

This is sort of like taking a Tiffany vase and engraving Picasso's face on it and claiming it was Picasso's. Biggest difference is the trumpet is still a New York Bach whereas the Tiffany vase is just a piece of glass with lost potential.

Its a beautiful horn to be sure, but nowhere in the ad does it say that the engraving or the plating are original. Without a shop card or some other kind of proof I´d be skeptical. It could have been plated and engraved last year or last week.

As far as Mendez owning or playing it, without some kind of proof, well...

If something seems to good to be true...

I don't know if the Bach trumpet is a fake or not, but I have never heard of Mendez owning or playing a Bach. He delt with Besson and Olds, but this horn might have been a presentation gift or something. If it was, I am wondering why it wasn't in his collection. I'm sure he would not have sold it or given it away.

Unless the seller has proof or some logical story to confirm the trumpet's authentocity, I wouldn't bid on it.

Thanks for that! Exactly how I feel. As a previous poster said, the engraving could very well have ben done last week!

Kind of ruins a very nice NY Bach for me!

Love the Mendez clips on youtube! They are a true example of that everything deoes NOT get better! No player today that I know of can- or dare to- play with that kind of style and tecnical perfection!

Yup. Wouldn't be tough for me to buy a used horn and have it engraved with any likeness I wanted.

The Moderators have been deleting several impolite and unrelated posts. that is why the thread may not make a lot of sense in terms of flow.

The culprit has been blocked now, so I things will get back to normal.

Because this horn seems to be the subject of so much interest, this thread has been cleaned up and is being returned to open forum for reference only.
