Thanks for posting this! I love a bunch of Utah recordings, especially a few under Kojian. Those were when Mr. Cord was principal, including:
Korngold: "The Sea Hawk" (some of the most amazing fanfare playing!!!)
Korngold: "Robin Hood"
Berlioz: "Sym. Fant."
Williams: "Star Wars Trilogy"
Jeff Kirchen was principal horn on those (now in the Philly Orch). Larry Zalkind was principal trombone (still princ tbn in Utah, I believe). Gene Pokorny was on tuba (now in the Chicago Sym.). Amazing recordings. |

Utah did a fair amount of recording in the 1960's when Maurice Abravanel was the music director. (when most recording was by the Big Five) I have an all-Copland album with Lincoln Portrait (with Charleton Heston as narrator), Outdoor Overture and Quiet City. Bill Sullivan sounds great on all three works. |
