I believe both are great horn. If you have to choose one of them, which one do you choose? Why?

Your trying to compare two different animals here. The blow and response is gonna be completely different. Both are great lead horns but you should try 'em first but if I had to choose I'd go with the Kanstul because I feel that it can blend a little better in a section but still have that over the top response you want when you need it. For me the "B" series are too bright for some situations. IMO

Even though I have two Kanstuls, I actually like the B5 better than the 1601 when I've played both. The response just seems to be a little bit better.

I would agree. If you're looking for a lead horn, there are few brighter and cut through like a "B" class Schilke. But IMHO, for section or solo work they just cut through too much.

If these are your only choices, then I would go with the Kanstul.

Actually I would consider looking at a Schilke B6 which I think is the most balanced and versatile of all Schilke trumpets.
