Ok, here is one for the Couesnon experts: over the last few days I have seen a number of online ads for various Couesnon instruments, mostly flugels and euphoniums. They all have that small bomb-like engraving on the bell and within this little emblem there is a number such as 45 or 15, etc. Sellers claim this is the build year. Is this true?

Yes. The bomb is called a “Grenade” in French. The pacifists call this a pineapple.

Oh, great. As a former artillery sergeant, the image reminds me of the insignia the gunners had on their Sunday uniforms So I AM really looking at horns made in 1915. Amazing.
