I unexpectedly had to go abroad due to an ill relative, and when packing my trumpet I just happened to pack a book named "Täglische Übungen" by said Johanssson.

My guess is that the book is either late 19th or early 20th sentury. Writtten for valve trumpet, and full of really sensible and good technical etudes.

The name sounds very swedish, but tye book was published by Musikverlag Wilhelm Zimmerman, frankfurt.

Any light to be shed on this?

Thanks!

Apparently a composer and most likely a brass specialist (primarily trumpet) from what I see online. His complete name is:

August Wassiljewitsch Johanson (with variations, August Vasilyevich; Johansson, etc...). Born 1853, died 1916.

Here's a little blurb I found (http://www.books.ch/detail/ISBN-9790010120300):

August Vasilyevich Johanson (1853 - 1916) studied at the Conservatory in 1871 in St. Petersburg, among others, Wilhelm Wurm. He gained his experience as an orchestra Solokornettist in the Imperial Theatre orchestras and worked as a successful professor at the Conservatory.

Thanks Dave! Wow! There you go.... a swedish-named russian. Great etudes. Especially if one starts transposing them up & down!

Strange, you asked the same question 3 years ago on this thread, and got the same answer:

Ha! Just like me. I can't remember what my wife tells me for 3 minutes, much less 3 years!
