Does anyone know the name of the piece and composer that featured the trumpet in last nights opening ceremonies? The commentators said it was a famous pre-WWII Russian March. If you don't recall, it was the piece playing when the red train flew in. Thanks if anyone out there knows.

Well, I don't know who or what it was, but... DANG! It was awesome! I sure would love to know what it was myself.

So, I was able to find a bit of information, but not much. All I know is that the orchestra that recorded the music was the Russian State Symohony Orchestra. I have no idea who the trumpet section is- their website hasnt been updated since like 2007. As for the music, They played Tolstoy's 'War and Peace'. That's all I know.

Maybe it was something from Prokofiev's War and Peace then?

Actually:

"Soviet composer Alfred Schnittke's brooding Concerto Grosso No. 5 accompanied giant red tractors and equipment rushing in to symbolize revolution."
