Why don't you consider Pick Music in Manchester, PA? Priscilla has some listening rooms and, I'm sure, would be very pleased to see a herd of trumpet players descend upon her establishment, perchance even to peruse and purchase! You could even throw a few Kanstuls into the mix. A few months back everyone was lauding her honesty, business practices, etc. Now is a good chance to "put your money where your mouthieces are!"
Just a thought. |

I am trying to figure a "central location" for all these states where participants would not have a ridiculously long ride.
So I am currently thinking northern NJ or upstate NY. There are many venues I have access to on lovely Long Island....but not the most conveinent for certain states. I would like a location easily accesible by Rte 95.
PA is not the greatest for folks in MA, CT.
How about it folks any referals? I'll handle the rest. |

Upstate NY or anywhere in New England would draw some of us Canadians. If this ever happens, I'll help to publicize it here in Ottawa. _________________ John Haysom

James, Dutchess Co. is a commuter hop from NYC. Just take the Hudson line to Beacon. I'll pick you up. Hey, if this takes off, I'm sure there will be lots of car pooling opportunities.
In any case, voting on where we'd like it to be is moot. I'm close to offering my house - only minutes from where I live. Hartford is OK and so is the NY - AREA. Driving and parking in many parts of the apple is a hassle and expensive. Philly, Boston, York, PA - well - how about my house?
Dutchess is considered "upstate" New York, but it's pretty far from the Canadian line. Actually, it's rapidly becoming a commuter county for NYC. One of my neighbors has significant connections with the Indian trumpet industry. Free pair of big-pocketed cargo pants with every purchase.
Bruce, PICK - you guys might have a commercial interest in such an event and have the horns of interest. (Pricilla, ever get your ZeuS back. We can always use mine.) What do you need to move this to the next level? |

Rafterman:
Very generous thought regarding your house. Maybe you have a local facility that might work. Why don't you send me your email address if you have any ideas. I'd be happy to speak with the director at any local facilty that comes to mind. Remember..the closer to a major pkwy..the better. |

Anyone thought of Providence, RI? MENC just had the Eastern Division concert in the "Renaissance City." There is a huge convention center with tons of parking adjacent to Providence Place Mall. Many wonderful restaurants and theatres are within walking distance as are Brown University, RISD, and Johnson & Wales. Within driving distance are RIC and Providence College. The train station and highway are next to the center as are many new hotels. Just a thought... |

Boy, am I depressed. Our friends in the south are working on trumpetfests, a holiday brass concert at the Mall of Atlanta, and a recording. The Eclipse fellow has offered to sponser the event - provided he gets a copy of the recording.
I don't want to get competitive about a fest in the Northeast (my ancestors were having their potatoes taken away in County Mayo between 1861-65), but can't we get some steam behind a northern fest? |

Hey, I would love to come up for your trumpetfest. Let me know when and where so I can mark my calendar.

August 16 and 17 are booked in Atlanta, and December 5 and 6 have been scheduled for Holiday Trumpets since last year. I just wanted to make you guys aware of the dates. Somebody needs to stand up and say, "I have this place. Does it work for the rest of you?" It's not as hard as you are making it. You can talk about it forever... Somebody needs to step forward. This is the place... this is the weekend. Contact Bruce. If you build it he will come. The truth is... you can make it soooo interesting that they will not mind driving a few miles in order to be a part of it. Tom Turner lives way the heck in South Georgia. Like almost in Florida, I think. He's going to make it. Bill Mirrielees... I think I spelled that right...My personal favorite spelling would be Bill Moreorless, however... Bill lives in Florida.
Basically, if you are unwilling to drive, then you must be willing to host, if one of these is ever to happen. (How the heck did you guys win THE WAR?? I'm teasing. I'm teasing.) Please let me know if I can help you in any way. The South is willing to share any music that is needed for your event. Plan it around playing, and it will be a HUGE success.
I'm here if you need an idea or a little direction.
