hey
where were you guys in March??!!!

so York PA is too close to the Mason-Dixon line for the North East?

Whatever y'all want to do - I can fix you up with some Kanstuls.

Is Connecticut within driving distance of most of anyone posting here?

Still waiting for information from upstate NY folks(Connectucut might work) with location ideas/info(at least for now). I will take matters further on my own if/when need be.

Hey James!

What is it you don't understand about NYC being too expensive, too congested, totaly unfeasable etc... etc....?

Hey, JGA - and others interested in the NE fest.

I spoke to Bruce this AM and he has two dates this summer that fit his schedule - July 19 and August 9.

Can this be done so quickly. Here's what we need to resolve:

LOCATION: a specific place is needed. I'll check Dutchess County locations. Anyone else with a specific place (church, community center, hall, school, etc.) suitable and available for a fest - a LOUD/LOUD event - should nominate a spot. (My wife tells me that using the house is a very BAD idea.) If a location materializes, we can then check the next thing.

ATTENDANCE: my guess is that Bruce doesn't want to travel 4-6 hours for a pick-up session of a trumpet trio - unless each member had prepaid for a Lawler or Eclipse. So even with a location, we'll need to have some way to estimate attendance.

ORGANIZATION: I'll volounteer to coordinate among folks who have a location proposal. I THINK THIS WOULD BE BETTER DONE VIA PRIVATE MESSAGES TO ME SO WE DON'T CREATE CONFUSION ON THIS THREAD. FOLKS SHOULD INCLUDE THEIR PERSONAL E-MAIL AND TELEPHONE WITH THEIR LOCATION PROPOSAL - just so we can talk about the possiblilites and details efficiently.

If we can get a site or sites this week, we can run it by Bruce and put it out next Monday or so. Then we can gauge the response.

If things don't come together for this summer, we can look to the Fall.

My brother lives in Newburgh NY, close to Rafterman.
I can check with him about some locations. --
of course - we could just take over the Wal Mart parking lot for the day.

and I have a friend who has just moved to CT for a teaching job at Hartt. Whether we can do anything with that - I don't know.

We are going to be driving north the weekend of August 23 - headed to Maine for 2 weeks. if you guys could make something happen on that weekend - my husband MIGHT agree to a small diversion.

Ok..seem to be making progress. July 19th is no good for me. July 26th or Aug. 3rd looks good. Please keep me in the loop folks. If we go with that date, I am sure I could help with sponsoring costs...and making someone at a location in upstate NY happy too!

I'm not sure...NYC would probably be a good place for me but upstate is no good....and those dates are all pretty open for me, as well

UPDATE:

Here's the current information on the fest idea.

I can get a site in Dutchess County, NY.

No one has contacted me or posted an offer to arrange another specific site.

Several folks prefer NYC, Hartford, Boston, Providence - but without a "host" our preferences don't much matter.***

There it is!

Are there folks out there who would come to Dutchess County - a place near Interstate 84 close to the Hudson River if we got something going on July 19 or August 9?

Any folks able to host at another location?

Hey, if it doesn't work for the summer, there's always the fall.

***Remember the scene in Public Enemy (Jimmy Cagney): At the table, she greets him without a smile. When he asks her for a beer for breakfast, she talks back. Tom: "Ain't you got a drink in the house?" Kitty: "Well, not before breakfast dear." Tom: "I didn't ask you for any lip. I asked you if you had a drink." Kitty: "I know Tom, but I-I wish that..." Tom: "There you go with that wishin' stuff again. I wish you was a wishing well, so that I could tie a bucket to ya and sink ya." Kitty responds provokingly: "Maybe you've found someone you like better." He looks down, makes a nasty grimace, and then impulsively picks up a grapefruit half from his plate and contemptuously pushes it into her face to end their relationship.

Who knows, maybe Matt (shinytrumpet) and I could get some sort of a place at Hartt during the fall break to do this shindig! I'll talk to him and have him deal with it, but it's only a tiny idea if the summer trumpetfest doesn't work!

S&Wguy, that could be a very attractive option. Let's see how this summer possibility unfolds AND keep this in mind.

Alright, I'll keep this in mind as well as bring it to Matt's attention and see what he says because he would know more than I if we could get it at Hartt or not. I'm sure that there's nothing opposing it as of right now.

Buzz:

I don't think this has slipped away. I had offered to sponsor(at least part of this event) but others have taken the reigns and have scheduled a date that works for them(which is cool!). I had asked some of our friends to help initiate securing a location in upstate NY (I feel the most conveinent location for folks within all NE states) but have not gotten any response back personally.

Therefore, I hope be able to help in any way possible..or try again when the appropriate persons schedules permit.

Maybe someone else can provide you with a status(or non-status).

Hey gang....

I'm just checking out sites, and would like a show of hands for how many people would be able to attend a trumpet fest on Friday, July 25th at Brown University?

Let's get this ball rolling, and party started!

Best,

Trent

Brown would be an awesome place for me - it's about 15 minutes from my house!

Nothing happening, as far as I know. It's an attractive idea, but needs greater inspiration - breath life into it.

Here's an update about a New England Trumpetfest:

I am working with Trent Austin, to put together one, or possibly two New England Trumpetfests. At present we have one venue, in Massachusetts, and we're working on another, in Connecticut. I'll keep everyone posted, as soon as we settle on a date and time for either location.

This WILL happen! Please stay tuned!

Best always,
Bruce

I would be really interested in coming, both Hartt and Boston are two hours from where I live, not too bad. (My mom actually graduated from Hartt School of Music, we've been there to tour the campus several times since.) I've never been to a trumpet fest, could someone describe exactly what this would entail (?). The fall would be better for me I think. That Friday the 25th that someone mentioned at Brown Univ. seems like it would end up being a rushed thing, does it only take a few days to plan these? Also, I think more people would be able to come the longer they have to mark it on their calenders. JMO...
