Olds A6ST Ambassador Bb Cornet

This is a heavyweight horn at 40oz, a 0.468" bore, and a 4.75" bell.

Although badged 'Ambassador' the A6 is a true professional level cornet build in the USA by Olds in the mid to late 1970's shortly before the company went bankrupt.

There were only around 500 of them ever built and only around half of those had triggers (built for the U.K. market) the rest had 'shunts' as used more in the American market. - So this is quite a rare cornet.

It is a large bore and has a big warm sound (of course you have to do your bit) and is quite capable of being played at the highest level.

The valves are excellent and show hardly any sign of wear. All the caps and slides are free and the two triggers work as they should, as do the water keys.

The cornet comes in its original brown Olds case, but does not have a mouthpiece.

The cornet does have some cosmetic issues reflected in the price. There is wear including some 'bubbling' to the silver plate and a blob of solder on the main tuning slide. There are no dents other than the odd little dink here and there.

This is a great playing large bore pro level cornet build by one of the worlds finest makers and can be enjoyed just as it is or perhaps re-silvered? I was quoted £50-60 to have the main tuning slide remanufactured, but didn't bother due to the logistics and cost of shipping the cornet both ways.

The price is now reduced to £600 including fully insured Royal Mail Special Delivery within the UK. Contact me for a price for shipping outside the UK.
