4-19-2019 SALE PENDING...

For sale here is simply... all we can say is that it's... a show-stopping work of art. A GORGEOUS one-of-a-kind BRAND NEW Taylor Phat Boy flugelhorn that was custom built for a Hollywood feature film that got shelved because of a high profile scandal and film studio restructuring. This is a part of HISTORY, friends! And the horn was even named "Moonbeam" (stenciled next to "Taylor"). This is a special horn that was held by lead A-list actors but played scarcely and always handled/played in the presence of the professional trumpet player who was preparing the actors for their roles at the time.

It's a looooong sordid tale that even involved rituals in New Orleans to bless these instruments and fill them with the Mojo of the greatest horn players of all time... but all you need to know is that we have been tasked with finding new homes for three horns amazing and truly unique horns. Firstly, as you probably all know, Andy Taylor is a FIRST CLASS builder and the three best horn builders in the world today (and for quite some time) have been Taylor, Monette and Harrelson. All different and all incredibly talented, producing the best of the new custom horns out there. But if we had to be honest and dish about which horns make us swoon the most, then it would have to be Taylor.

This Phat Boy is probably the most aggressive yet sweet-sounding horn in the flugel/flumpet range. Andy's horns are meaty and aren't playing around. The tone comes from the solid build and uniquely precise flow of tubing that broadens the tone of this naturally dark/warm brother/sister of the trumpet. We were recently asked by someone abroad if we thought the Phat Boy or the Flumpet got higher marks from us, since we've sold a few of each. It's always so hard to choose between a Ferrari or a Lamborghini, BUT... there's something about the Phat Boy that's just so tonally classic with a playability that makes it almost effortless to slot. The bends and soft notes come so incredibly easy and you NEVER get tired of hearing the tone this horn allows you to produce. What's even more amazing and telling is that... playing Taylor horns tend to make you a better player because you have to practice precise breath control and really know where your harmonics are. The reward for doing so is that amazing, warm Taylor sound.

Andy Taylor didn't hold back here and threw every feature and design upgrade he could into this baby. In fact, we reviewed the build history correspondence and this was the first time he tried the heat color-modification process on any horn larger than the trumpet. In fact, the other Taylor we have for sale of one of his earlier heat color-modified horns that is simply spectacular to see and play. You never know how heat-treated horns will come out and that's the beauty of it. This Phat Boy is just so epic to see up close because you can totally get lost in the bizarre natural patterns the heated metal produces—coming off at times as liquid metal underneath its gorgeous top shelf high gloss lacquer finish. Again, truly a work of art.

It will come with a high end hard or soft case as well as two custom mouthpieces specially made for this horn along with two complementing lead pipe receivers of varying length for the mouthpieces. The horn also comes with custom blue sunken paua finger buttons and custom matching valve bottom caps. The original gold bottom caps are also included.

"Moonbeam" has been well-maintained by professionals through the transition process and no lapses in cleaning, greasing or oiling ever occurred. This horn is in brand new condition and will never be made again or copied. It is being offered at $9,500 or best offer. It's being sold at an appraised fair market price to help the main production company recoup hundreds of thousands of dollars in losses, which it won't even get a fraction of. But AT LEAST... a couple lucky musicians will get to play and enjoy these one-off rare high-end instruments.

Please check out the amazing custom Taylor Bb trumpet and vintage Selmer Balanced we have for sale. We also have another amazing 1940 Martin Committee Handcraft up for grabs now.

AND... we have a couple new Monette single trumpet cases and some amazing mouthpieces for sale, too.

Thanks for looking!
