SOLD - I’m selling a rare specimen Bach Mercedes in a whopping .464” bore in excellent condition! The other rarity is the bronze balusters on the two-piece valve casings since this is a 1969 based on serial number. I sent an email to Tedd Waggoner at Bach who responded that this is NOT a standard build for the era. Unfortunately he didn’t start until 1972 and his predecessor has since passed away. Normal configuration during this period would have been the ML .459 bore and a two-piece casing with brass balusters. This one is also every bit the quality of the Stradivarius much like the ones from when Vincent Bach owned the company - again, very rare.

However, there were some artists during that period that really liked the sound of the Mercedes vs the Stradivarius. It is very possible this was a prototype or an experiment for one of them but again, the records aren’t that detailed. I’ve come across prototypes for lots of different Bach items in the past including some that made it on ebay for the new Bach Commercial mouthpiece line when they were trying different configurations of throats and backbores before settling on the final setup. All we do know is this is probably a one-of-a-kind horn since even the Bach L bore is only a .462” so this would be between L and XL.

No dents or dings, original lacquer with one small wear spot where LH index finger rests under the bell, no signs of previous repair work, valve and slide compression is like new. The original case has very little wear, no smell, and comes with original key. Also the originally included Vincent Bach Corp 7C.

This horn really plays!! I have included two video clips and the intonation is great as is the response. This uses a lot of Stradivarius parts including the two-piece valve casing with the bronze balusters. I have a couple video clips. I would keep it but I just bought one of the new Bach C190 C Trumpets and would like to replenish the horn fund for a new Eb. You can email for higher resolution pictures. Thanks for looking!!
