Calicchio 1B SN/ 1768
Excellent valves great compression the lacquer is pretty nonexistent and there is evidence of slight red rot in the leadpipe, but it is very minor and this horn will last another 50 years in it's current condition. If you wanted spare parts John Duda has now teamed up with BAC in Kansas City and will be available.
This VINTAGE Calicchio was hand crafted by the old man himself. Yes, Domenick had a special touch that made each and every horn he made a seriously sought after item! Around this time Domenick Calicchio horns were in high demand during the exploding Los Angeles TV and Studioscene. Guys like the Findley Brothers, the Candolli brothers and Buddy Childers were all using Calicchio trumpets. With a SN# 1768, that dates this horn around 1959, You can call Calicchio (John Duda) or visit their webpage to verify when it was made. This 1B is THE most open horn of it's kind. It is radically free blowing and centers and slots perfectly from low F# all the way to double high 'C' !!! You will never find a better lead or jazz horn EVER!!!! No case or mp....just a stunning example of one of THE best vintage horns in the world!! This is an excellent playing trumpet especially for playing lead in a big band. 1718 puts the horn in early 1960, I would guess. All that the book says about that horn is that it has a medium large bore. Domenick was not that great with records... but for the most part, he was entering his "very light" stage, as evidenced by the 1B bell. The 1 bell has a very tight taper which gives the horn a lot of projection with a very bright sound. To add body to the sound, Domenick used bronze ("B") as a bell material. The increased copper content adds warmth to the sound. Bronze, when used in a bell tends to be a thinner gauge, so that removes a bit of weight also. Unfortunately, it sounds like this is from the era before Domenick started numbering his leadpipes. This leadpipe might be a 7 pipe, which would have added a bit of warmth, to the tone also. No Case or Mpc.
