Really rare, an EMO Champion serial number #546, recently refreshed (by Tony Scodwell) only the mouthpiece receiver was re-positioned as the original end gap was 1/2". The bore is .454 and with the large end gap the trumpet played really "tight" as you might expect. With the end gap at 1/8th" the blow opened up and all in all this is a very usable trumpet considering it's vintage, which best as I can tell is late thirties-early forties. EMO history on the web is not bad but dating manufacture is sketchy at best. EMO built trumpets for many well known names such as Buffet-Crampon, Rudy Muck, Don Getzen amongst many others. Of course they were most well known for the harmon style mute but these trumpets are very well made in the German tradition. Louis Armstrong played EMO trumpets while he was ensconced in Europe during the forties. Louis gifted one of his three to Hugh Masakela during this period. The trumpet was lightly polished and re-lacquered and did not require much restoration. The valves are lovely and EMO devised a rather complicated guide system. The bell is on the soft side and the leadpipe shows no flaws. What is unusual is the original mouthpiece that comes with the trumpet. Carved out of a solid blank of German nickel silver, the mouthpiece closely resembles the cushion rim double cup style. It measures a 30 throat and as you might imagine, works well with the smaller bore trumpet. Included is a later case fitting the trumpet but not original. Offered at what I consider a reasonable price for something quite collectable, I prefer money order payment as I cannot accept PayPal, credit or debit cards. Shipping within the US is included and international shipping will be calculated depending on destination shipped to.
