For those who just want the facts; …..
Horn is 52 years old, brand new, never used!
Serial Number M88690
Bell is engraved: Conn Elkhart Indiana 8B
Original unused Connstellation 7B-N mouthpiece
Original Seller – Hamlins Music Store Elmira, NY (Now in Mesa, Arizona)
Original Conn case complete with original Selmer Lacquer Metal Polishing cloth and original case keys.
1 owner (me). For 52 years I have never played or inserted the mouthpiece, but have lubricated the valves. (I always handled it using the cloth to lube the valves. or otherwise touch it). My old eyes see no dents scratches, or blemishes. I don’t know if during the proper evaluation for a horn, one uses an eye scope or other device?
The case has a dig on the edge on the underside. This is noted in the pictures
The Story; ………Just how one comes to own a Brand New 52 year old Trumpet.
I played until I was around 15 or so, mostly Junior High Band. I had an old silver student trumpet with very little plating left on it. I left for the Military in 1971 (Great draft number of 13). By that time I had not played for several years, and my interest level proclaimed that my trumpet career was indeed over.
In around late 1971(I think), Elmira NY suffered a gigantic flood. As the flood hit my parents’ house, it consumed my old student Trumpet along with most everything else. State Farm insurance actually personally inventoried everything that was in the flooded house and replaced all they thought was worthy of insurance replacement. Years later, during a visit to my parents the subject of my Junior High School Trumpet career came up in the conversation. My parents said, Hey by the way, State Farm replaced the old trumpet with a new one, take it with you. I did. I looked a year or so later to find it was a Conn Artist.
I am not sure why the Conn Artist replacement but, years had passed since the flood, and no other documentation was available......so here it is, 52 years later, just as it came from Hamlins music store. Looks brand new
I am pretty old now. I play guitar and some banjo along with my wife who plays mandolin. I know what instruments can mean to people. I think we instrument lovers never really own any of them, we just sort of borrow them while we are here.
Let this horn go to a good loving home that will appreciate the story and it’s voice.
Thank You all for looking!
