Testing the waters...
The good:
This is an incredibly rare vintage trumpet. I've only seen one other vintage martin handcraft imperial with a nickel bell and it's currently on eBay listed for $3000. This is a medium bore, Martin 2 bore, horn. Do not let that fool you! It plays wide open and has a huge, window shaking, tone. Its intonation beats the pants off any committee and it's much more versatile. This horn is an improvisors dream and is killer in the upper register as well. If you're looking for a vintage horn with character to the sound, this is it.
The badish:
This horn is 88 years old and has seen some shit in its past life. It has two patches that were professionally installed by Michael Del Quadro. It does not affect the playability or tone. The valve compression isn't the best, but paired with a medium bore it isn't noticeable. I use Yamaha "vintage" oil, but BERP #3 would also work well. It could use a professional cleaning and polishing. |
