For sale is a Benge 4X. It is a UMI era Benge. This one is in near mint condition. The 4X is an unusual Horn. Benge wanted to offer some thing in the 3X/5X range but that had a slightly different lead pipe. The 4X has the same bell is the 5X but has a Besson like lead pipe as opposed to the standard 5X leadpipe. As you can see in the pictures below the Horn is in near mint condition. It’s very pristine. I played this on tour with the circus, and found it to be an excellent Horn. Nothing like the original Benges mind you, but an excellent horn nonetheless. The UMI Benges are nothing at all like the original Benges . They are a completely different animal, however, that doesn’t mean they play badly. It simply means they aren’t quite as ridiculously good as the original designs from Chicago and LA. I found the horn to be very in tune, and have an even scale. The slots are slightly more slippery than a Bach, but not as slippery as the old Benges. The Horn has an excellent upper register. I had no problems at all playing High G’s and A’s when I wanted during the show. For me, the sound is different than what I am shooting for. It’s actually a little darker and prettier than I need due to the demands of my gigs.
