For sale today is my renovated 1923 London Besson Bb/A trumpet in raw brass! It’s a lovely instrument with a beautiful, easy sound and is setup to make it easy for any modern player to just pick up and make music on. I’ve even played this instrument in the Charlotte Symphony a few times.

“Quality of life” modifications
- Fully reversed 1st and 3rd valve slides with saddle/rings (Sweeney Brass)
- Vented 3rd piston (Sweeney Brass)
- Added 3rd slide stop screw (Sweeney Brass)
- Excellent valve fit, valves were refit in the 90s by Anderson Plating.

It has a change rotor just before the valve block that changes the overall length between Bb and A, and then the added rings and saddles mean you can still play the horn chromatically in tune regardless of which key you’re set in.

You also get 3 mouthpieces with this trumpet. Why? Because the shank is smaller than modern standard - about halfway between trumpet and cornet. A normal trumpet shank mouthpiece will seat but very far out and play weirdly due to the small insertion depth.

1. Original Besson “Prototype” model mouthpiece, re-plated by Theta Plate
2. Bach 1C with a turned down shank end, re-plated in silver by Theta Plate
3. Vennture 645-280-24 made with the correct shank size (AKA - “The Old Man”)

I actually have made two YouTube videos about this trumpet… one featuring the trumpet in the condition I bought it in, and the other about the various quality of life modifications I had done to it (as well as talking about the mouthpieces…).
