Selling a Wild Thing trumpet in silver plate, along with many accessories that make it a unique set for someone who wants to get the full Wild Thing experience.

The Wild Thing trumpet is unique and has a passionate following of players who love it uniquely. It was designed by Flip Oakes and built by Kanstul (sadly, Kanstul is now out of business, so Wild Things are scarce). It has a faster bell flair, a wider wrap, and shorter length (18" vs 19" from receiver to bell) than a typical trumpet, which leads to a unique sound and remarkably even and in-tune scale.

This particular Wild Thing was first sold in 2002, and it is in near-mint condition. There are a couple of tiny dings in the bell flair (can barely see them and BARELY feel them). The silver plate is very robust on Kanstuls, and this instrument is consistent with that: there are some polishing marks, but the silver is mostly pristine except for a few tiny imperfections (I can't feel anything –I think that they are stains that could come out with more aggressive polishing) After I bought it used in 2022, I realized that it had non-original valve top caps and that the valve alignment was messed up. I sent it to Flip Oakes himself for a valve alignment and original top caps (July 2022).

This sale includes the following accessories that make it even more unique and customizable:
1. Two tuning slides so that the player can dial in and adjust their preferred sound (Flip says "It's like having two different horns!”). #1 (largest, cylindrical bore). Wider slots, plays "bigger". #2 (smallest or tightest, conical bore). More defined slotting, takes less air.
2. Two Flip Oakes mouthpieces: 7-L (a shallow lead piece in excellent condition), and 5-O (an all-around piece that is mostly excellent except for some discoloration around the mouthpiece rim)
3. A salt shaker mute with adjustable corks. This solves the biggest problem I had with the Wild Thing: the bell flair is so broad that most conventional trumpet mutes either bottom out or play with poor intonation. The adjustable cork thicknesses allow the player to dial it in.

I absolutely LOVE this horn – it is my favorite I have ever played! It is the most responsive, most in tune throughout the range, and so fun to play. I am selling it because I recently received a trumpet that has unique sentimental value to me and I don’t play enough to justify having two Bb trumpets – and I want someone else to get the get the chance to experience the Wild Thing for themselves :)
