My music work is divided into three areas: playing, ensemble direction, and education.
My playing consists of orchestral work, big band, and shows. I have been principal trumpet of EMG Symphony Orchestra in Exeter (http://www.emgsymphonyorchestra.co.uk) for 10 years - although amateur, they play to a very high standard, and this has given me the opportunity to play pieces such as Mahler's Resurrection Symphony in places such as Exeter Cathedral (http://www.exeter-cathedral.org.uk). My big band work is with AJ's Big Band (http://www.ajsbigband.co.uk). I play in shows in venues including the Northcott Theatre in Exeter and the Princess Theatre in Torquay.
My ensemble direction includes the Devon Youth Jazz Orchestra, and groups at Exeter School (http://www.exeterschool.devon.sch.uk) and Exeter College (http://www.exe-coll.ac.uk), where I also teach trumpet and music theory.
I have been awarded an MA in Music (Distinction) from the Open University, with my Dissertation being on the Ensemble Performance Practice of the Count Basie Orchestra after 1952. |
