Larry Dean is from Copperas Cove, Texas where he began playing trumpet at age 10. He attended Southwest Texas State University (now Texas St. University) in San Marcos, TX and studied with both Jack Laumer (Assistant Principal Trumpet of the Austin Symphony) and Dr. Keith Winking. Also, he studied with the late Armando Ghitalla (former Principal Trumpet of the Boston Symphony) in 1998.
Currently, Larry is a member of the US Army Training and Doctrine Command Band at Fort Eustis, VA. His other assignments include four years as Principal Trumpet of the First Cavalry Division Band (to include two tours to Baghdad, Iraq) and one year as Principal Trumpet of the US Army Medical Command Band at Fort Sam Houston, TX. He has performed with The Virginia Symphony, The Austin Symphony, Austin Lyric Opera, and the Mid-Texas Symphony. In 1998, he co-founded the Austin based rock band Indagroove (formerly Blu Funk Junction). Larry was also a finalist in the 1997 International Trumpet Guild’s Mock Orchestra Audition competition in Goteberg, Sweden. |
