|
|
Dear Trumpet Heralders,
Does anyone remember a voice splitting device for winds (Brass/Sax) called a Conn Multi-Vider? it was a small 6 inch by 8 inch unit that could give you and added interval 3rd or fourth above your note on your horn and fill up the horn sound and add certain wah-wah like effects? I believe it was around in the 1970's ??? anyone know of a similar effects unit like this currently being used? and who is making them? Thanks! The mouthpiece was drilled on the shank and a pick-up was attached to the unit . . . . to the amplification system . . . etc. . .
Thanks for any and all info

I believe a multi-vider was used on the sax solos in the
song Low Spark of High Heeled Boys by Traffic. A great tune
and great band in the 70's. |

it was the Multi-divider and we had a guy in our highschool jazz band that had one ( 1973). It was really used alot by a guy named Don Ellis, listen to a chart he wrote called Final Analysis _________________ http://www.myspace.com/quincysbrassband |

Sounds like you might need some sort of harmonizer or a multi-effect pedal.
There are several companies and price classes, check out Digitech, Roland & Lexicon for instance.
(If you want to hear an example of what I mean, I use similar effects on the tune "Like Britney" on my myspace-page) _________________ https://open.spotify.com/album/74qgCj2jd9VxEX6FNk1UKK

I remember it however I don't know of a modern day replacement for the effects, however I have been contemplating the electroharmonix voice box..that will give you doubling, harmonies or octaves. _________________ Yamaha Xeno 8335RGM w/MK Drawings mods.

the old one had a box that clipped onto your belt and looked like a large pager, it had several small switches that you would use to mix the sounds and all that connected to a amp. _________________ http://www.myspace.com/quincysbrassband |

Steve Ahern my band director had one which he used on gigs.* He brought it into our middle school to entice us wanna-be's to keep up with mouthpiece buzzing. Dat Dat. Dah Deeee Dah Dat Dat...
We did have fun with the theme to 'The Great Escape', 70's style, amplified, wah-wah'd. In harmony.
* ah, the 70's it was. This guy was like a blond Neil Diamond. My mom liked ND, but his paisley silk shirt opened down to the sternum was a little much for a kid's pops concert, in her dear eyes. "It's A Small World", "Color My World", etc. Pure 6th grade. Pure 1974. (Or was it? I don't remember the 70's, man...) ...But Steve, thanks for the lessons. Sorry your baseball career didn't take off. _________________ kochaavim, csillaagkep, αστερρισμός, konnstelacji, connstellation... ...a.k.a. the 28A!

I had a Vox brand model back 1970. Still have the mouthpiece I hooked the pickup to. All it did was give me an octave below and 2 octaves below pitch. It had a line-out so I ran it through a Maestro Echo-plex and a Maestro Ring Modulator,(still have the ring modulator), ala Don Ellis! Also used a combo fuzz/wah pedal on it. Some nifty sounds and gimmicks for the time! Got a chance to meet and have dinner with Don Ellis back in high school where he gave a clinic and concert. Ah, the memories! |

I had one of the Vox ones...Used to plug into an Ampeg B15 bass amp,
set the Vox box to double me at two octaves lower, stick in a harmon mute and play bass! It was hilarious! |

I have a TC Electronics I have used to add an octave below, and an octave below that. It could do much more but adds digital noise if playing high C or above.
I also have an Ampeg B-25 bass amp, but have never been so desperate as to try to use it as a PA. |

I have the Vox Ampliphonic Octavider II, with it's original leather case. I also have the Maestro W3 Sound System (for Woodwinds), with the foot switch and the stand. |
