Awhile back there was (and still is) a good topic that asked what mpc and horns people play. I ended up printing many pages of the topic out, because I wanted it for future referance as to what people play. Couldn't we just add this survey into everyones profile? I mean, it would be so much easier to just say "I wonder what he/she plays?" and then click on a button and find out. Just a suggestion. I love what you guys are doing with this forum...simply great!

Sincerely,
Stephen

Stephen,

I also think that would be a neat idea. I've sometimes felt that after reading a comment it could be taken several ways based on the equipment they play.

Great idea!

Sure, I'd like to see in a profile what horns people are playing.

I'd also like to see what kind of work some people do: orchestra, jazz (what setting, too), wedding, church, theater, quintet, community band, college band, or whatever. It would be nice to estimate this with percentages, too.

I have no idea where you'd use a 'Wild Thing.' And we'd all have a better idea of what someone was talking about if we knew in what context it was being said: from warm-up stuff to entire 'schools' of thought.

I have no problem having that info in my profile. I'd be flattered if someone thought it could help them.

Just thinking.

JC.

Sounds like a good idea. Knowing where others are coming from can help.

Great idea Stephen, I'm sure a lot of people would benefit from that information. I do not know what the logistics to accomplish this are but I am sure someone here does.

I also agree that equipment specifics would be a useful tool in the user profiles. What horn you play is as much a part of who you are as where you come from.

cheers,

kjb

Thanks for all the comments and positive feedback everyone! Just a little addition to the post: if you check flugelhorns.com they have a little survey thing that is similar (not exactly though) to what I am suggesting. It is a little bit more detailed than what I was thinking, but its similar. I know the owner and maintainer of that website sometimes posts here, but I can't remember who it is. There is a flugelhorn on ebay right now that he is selling. Its a pretty cool website. Well, thanks for listening!

I know in other forums (an example is corvetteforum.com) members list their equipment in their signature. An example is in my sig.

I think for some people listing their equiptment in their closing would be a little lengthy. For example, I currently play about six horns, about five mouthpieces, and carry around four or five different cases. My closings could take up a whole page.
