Have you ever used a trumpet hanger? Is it good/safe?

This is manufactured for music store display and requires a special wall board section called "slatboard". Other manufacturers here in U.S. have other types of hangers for this type of display board. Its an alternate to peg board usage. If positioned high in store it suffices ... I wouldn't use at home. |

So it's not possible to fix it on the wall, right?

What's the downside of this hanger? Is it safe?
I would like to have a display at home for my personal instruments, and I was thinking about the the K&M trumpet pegs, but some of my instruments can not be used on trumpet pegs (very soft bell, tuning bell...)
Do you have any idea? _________________ Robson Adabo de Mello

I have been looking at items like this, some which require slatboard and others which you can just screw to the wall. I would use such for displaying my collection - slatboard is cool if you can find it cheap. But I would probably add something to keep the horns secured on the prongs - cable ties? We don't get much earthquake action in Ithaca (we do some tho') but the world is changing and we have cats and I am also fairly clumsy. The studio portion of my home has wall space which would look great with a bunch of horns on it. Yes, it might look like a store, but, if I have someone over to look at horns I have for sale - then it is appropriate. Horns in cases feel neglected. (I asked 'em.)
The nice thing about horns hanging on this kind of thing is they are accessible, and glass cases are heavy and expensive.
Do a search on trumpet hangers to find ones which just screw to the wall.

As you noticed the screw hole at top, yes it would be possible by screwing it to wall.

I wouldn't think such to be any safer than laying such on an open shelf unless tied in place. Also, I would be suspect of the foam containing rubber that may stain silverplate unless the specification from manufacturer stated otherwise.
Consider also that what is in prominent view increases propensity of theft.

Security alarmed showcases. Layed on velvets like fine jewelry. |

If your looking to hang horns on the wall you can use either a wooden coat or hat rack or from the hardware store, hooks for tools in a c shape or u shape or something combining those 2 ideas. You'll know it when you see it. Hope that helps. |

.... and I'd need a railroad spike or big lag bolt to hold my tuba !!!!!!!
How about those vinyl covered screw type bicycle or tool holders?
Don't dis my 'bone ... or any of my other horns ... they may not be great, but they're mine and I've the ability to play them all ... and they're now my inspiration for 2nd comeback capability. |

Take a look at this...

I'd suggest a plywood panel with fabric attached (or something similar) as a backup. Then screw these hooks into the wall.
As long as it's not a tuning bell horn, you would be okay. Beware, horns left out tarnish fast.
Let us know what you do. Photos preferably. _________________ Scott Kuehn |

This is exactly the kind of vinyl covered (dipped) hook I use to hang our bicycles on. |

Me too!
But, there was a concern that the originally proposed hanger wouldn't provide enough stability. No trumpet will fall off this one. _________________ Scott Kuehn |

Hooks with about the same size screw hold our porch swing ... with both my wife and I sitting on it. Yeah, I could load that swing with every horn I have including their cases and add all the tires and wheels from my truck and it ain't falling ... for sure. But it is a ceiling mount. They have these as are flat with a small lip for ladders as are horizontally mounted that I think would suffice better for the OPs purpose ... but then they are only secure if set in studs, joists, or rafters. |
