Hi All,
I have used the TH Marketplace to buy, sell and even trade trumpets and gear. I always felt more comfortable with the Marketplace than EBay, believing that the integrity of the membership on the site was a controlling force in ensuring honest transactions to take place.
Unfortunately, I have found this not a surefire guarantee. Here is a copy of an email I recently sent to a fellow TH member that sums it up.
"I paid you on May 30th for your Conn 22B by Paypal and you promised to send it out to my repair tech within the next 2 days. I called the tech about 2 weeks later and he had not received it. I called you on your cell phone and you promised to send it out promptly. I then received an email about a week later stating that the horn had not been addressed properly and had been returned to you. You expressed regrets and apologies and promised to send the horn out by UPS this time. I waited another 3 weeks and the tech still does not have the horn that I paid for. I have tried to email you and contact by cell phone you for an update as to the whereabouts of my horn with no response. This is unacceptable behavior in a TH member and Marketplace user.
Please contact me to assure me that the horn has been sent and provide me with a UPS tracking number. Thank you."
Now, I live in a foreign country and a long way from being able to physically contact this person so has anyone got any ideas as to how I should proceed?
Sorry guys, here goes. Jonathan Heckathorn of Middleburgh, Ohio is the man to talk to if you know him and no, he has not provided a tracking number or even once tried to contact me.
Your seller has not posted anything since 2007 ... his name and profile sound fishy:

If you can dispute with Pay Pal...it might light a fire under the seller to do what was promised. Seems you've waited long enough as no word has been conveyed to you from the seller.
Thanks for the tip on using a Paypal dispute process. I hadn't thought of that.
As for the name sounding "fishy" the Moderators could confirm the ad that was posted. Canadians are used to "friendly fire" from Americans. Used to to it but don't like it.

etc-etc wasn't doubting you and he wasn't making fun of Canadians. He was questioning the veracity of the seller... _________________ Scott

Sounds like "The Musical Instrument Repair Shop" in Tenn. has launched another scam. If it's not them it must be a relative, same excuses... _________________ Praise him with the sound of the trumpet! Ps. 150:3

Some quicky research:
1) The fellow's phone number is in the profile..might clear up things quickly.
2) There is a fellow with the same name + "Jr." who appears to be an anestheisiologist working about 10 miles from Middleburg HEIGHTS. Might be a father of the fellow you're dealing with (since I'm guessing an anestheisiologist is not going to put "chicks" in his profile.
3) Putting a hold on paypal funds should get some attention, and would be appropriate if general concern..which I would put 2 weeks with no communication in that category. Once the item is received however you should be quick on freeing up the funds.
Hope that helps

Fred,
Being from the USA, I realize we have so many of our own problems with our children and other matters that we can't seem to get right in almost every situation that we ought not to be casting "stones and dispersions" at our Canadian neighbors.
I will stick with the "positive" characteristics of both nations!
Hi All,
Paypal doesn`t cover cases more than 45 days old. The best I can do is to lodge a complaint. The research is appreciated although I can`t blame the sins of the child on the father. I would not want to start a border war with the neighbors to the south but we admittedly do occasionally get a bit touchy livng next door. If this Jonathon Heckathorn jr. shows up in the Marketplace again I trust that others don`t get scammed as I did.
Cheers, Brian

Normally junior would be younger than the other person with the same name.

Sorry, I was thinking if there was a Jr. There might be a III.
The reason I give the possible father as a possibility, especially if this might be a High School youngster (remember "chicks" in the profile) the father might have some additional information.
TO OUR CANADIAN FRIENDS...JUST JOKING AROUND...PURE SATIRE FROM THE SOUTH PARK FOLKS....COULDN'T RESIST.....eh? _________________ -fred
