Are there any?
I'd like to know what kind of equipment IIB's tend to gravitate to.
Anybody know what set up Chris LaBarbera uses?
I know Brian MacDonald plays a 36b and a Shew #1 _________________ trumpet - synths - cornet

I'm pretty sure he plays a 36b, but with a Warbuurton 5S/6.
Maybe he'll chime in and correct me if I'm mistaken! _________________ Bach 72 bell/25 pipe

A few years ago, Chris was playing a Conn 60B with a Warburton mouthpiece (5S, not sure what BB). _________________ 6340S, Connstellation 36B, 38B, 38A, and 28A, Couesnon flugel, Blackburn C, Kanstul/Besson 920 picc, and a HUGE pile of Messina Covers gig bags |

Bach 1 1/2 C or Reinhardt 5C if I want to have an edgy sound. |

I'm also a IIIB and play GR 62 series mouthpieces in addition to Bob Reeves 40 S and M pieces. |

You should all play on what you like and what feels and sounds the best FOR YOU.
I played on modified 5S's for years, recently I just started using a Warburton 6ES. Its not really all that shallow for an ES cup so don't let that scare you.
One thing I have noticed over the years is that a IIIB generally does better with some type of "undercut". The IIIB seems to need just that little extra room in the first cup coming off the rim.
Just as IV's seem to do well with a flat rim, I think a mp no matter how shallow should have some type of "relief" just under the bite to give the chops a little extra room as IIIB's tend to have more "lip penetration" into the cup than say a IIIA.

Do they have spikes in the rim? Do you have to wear a leather mask when you play them? _________________ Crazy Nate - Fine Yet Mellow Fellow

I play a Reeves 43ES 69 backbore and have played it since 1987. It does have a bit of relief inside the rim, as Chris mentioned. |

Freudian slip much?
I'm a IIIB and I play on Curry 3 rims.
I agree totally with Chris; that undercut is necessary for me!

I have one of those, and played it for a bit. Started feeling like I should be doing pivot routine from DHC
(Yeah I felt like that, but couldn't do it. It ain't the mpc folks)
Chris, is your mod done on the rim or the cup? |

I’m also a IIIB and since 1990 have used some variation of a 6A4A even using one of Chase’s personal custom 6A4a models made by Renold Schilke in 1973, I also love The Legends Bill Chase Jet Tone copy made by Pete Pickett for Derek Saidek, it’s a copy from the original templates designed by Ray Amado, nothing like what was sold to the public |

11 years old thread pops up... interesting to see the changes!
I played the Shew Lead/Ingram for quite some time, and have landed on some Vennture gear - LV2S-B (not dissimilar at all to the Shew Lead, but a less rounded rim), and some other pieces with the same rim and varying depths. Typically shallower, as was Doc's advice to the IIIB, IIRC.
Andrew, I thought your post "contempt with my mouthpiece" was a hilarious slip... I know that feeling, having been through a bushel or two of them!
This tape of Reinhardt discusses mouthpieces - and is very frank, and honest, it is advice I wish I had heard and heeded way back.

If you want to hear a cleaner version, I have repaired this audio (Rich just hasn't got round to uploading it, and man, there's a ton more of these recordings to go online):
