I just purchased a Yamaha ytr - 934. It is in fabulous condition.
It is a bright playing trumpet.

Anybody out there know anything about the history of the 900 series trumpets?

It appears that they were produced between 1975-1980. I don't know anymore about them.

These horns were the next series on from the first series of Yamaha pro horns, of which I own two, a YTR634 and a YTR732.

The horns were developed with the assistance of Renold Schilke, hence their marked similarity to Schilke models.

They are great horns if you can get one in good condition - I've owned my YTR634 for 30 years, and played it in almost every situation you can think of.

I think the 934 is the direct descendent of my 634, which would make it a .460" bore. I think it has a smaller bell than the 634 at 4.75", and might be yellow rather than red brass.

A piccie or two would be good to see.

I posted on my two horns here http://www.trumpetherald.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=98877&highlight

and the link in the second post on that thread leads to another thread which discusses the links to Schilke.

Enjoy your horn!

Cheers,
Roger

Hey, did you buy that off of ebay for like $500? I was watching that; if that was you, you got an awesome deal!

I think the 900 series was the equivalent of today's "artists' series." So it's probably like a 734 with some tweaks; on that ebay listing it looked like a new 6335S, and claimed to be the precursor to the Bergeron 8335LA. In any event, I'm sure it's a great horn.

I did get it off ebay, but not for $500.00. Since those trumpets appear to be pretty rare it could have been me!

It is a very bright sounding horn. I used it Christmas Eve for all my descant parts for Joy to the World and other songs. The tone is bright and very alive!!

It is also very easy to keep in tune and the upper register is spot on!!

I must say though that I probably would not have bought the trumpet if I had asked for more pictures.
He only had one picture and that masked a bell that had a huge krinkle in it.
Also I noticed after the trumpet arrived that one of the braces was soldered on....don`t get me wrong the work was top notch but it was never mentioned in the ebay add. Also the tuning slide had some work done to it....and where the bell attaches looked like it was also soldered. besides the krinkle in the bell itself.

After it`s arrival I took it to the local music repair shop and the krinkle was taken out. With a little silver polish after the work was done, you cannot see the krinkle.

Over all what I paid for the trumpet and the way the trumpet plays was well worth the money. As you can see in the pictures...where is the damage?

I got a real fine deal!!
