A girl at school has her main tuning slide stuck and she keeps asking me to fix it. And I really want to fix it cuz I'm sick of hearing her play out of tune.
Does anyone have any suggestions on a safe way to get that bad boy out?
i really don't want to use the belt method because I had a bad experience with it where it broke the tuning slide. _________________ Jorge Ayala Jr: Trumpeter/Producer

What I'd do:
1) Bring it to a local repairman. It's really not worth risking destroying the slide. It'd cost more to fix that.
2) Buy slide grease. _________________ Chris King

3. Once it's fixed, teach her to take the horn apart an clean/regrease ALL slides, valves, and water keys (if Amado) at least once a semester. Oh heck...tell her to just give the whole thing a bath before the start of each term. |

And once you have her squared away on trumpet maintenance, you should show her how to check the oil in her automobile! Might save you some trouble "down the road." _________________ C. G. Conn 60B Super Connstellation

I agree about taking the horn to a repair person. I tried to unstick a tuning slide recently and ended up crimping the tubing. Yikes!
Also, chances are if the tuning slide is stuck the rest of the horn is gunked up, too. A repair shop can chem clean the horn and it'll play much better.
The cost should be pretty reasonable - more so than virtually any other kind of repair I can think of. _________________ Jim Hatfield

I have seen people using WD-40. Not sure if it is harmful or not, but that is what I have seen used. |

I've heard that if you bath it in pretty hot water, it loosens slightly |
