I really enjoy Playalong CDs. Does anyone have any recommendations?
I'm particularly interested in mellow ballads/lounge/smooth jazz arrangements that would sound great on my flugelhorn. So many of the popular offerings are the tired old pop and Disney-type tunes. I'm looking for some variety. Thanks!!!! |

Welcome to TH!
If you haven't already discovered Jamie Aebersold's playalongs, you may be interested in checking out some of the 106 CDs he has for sale here:

Of course you can always just take your favorite CD and play along. |

Thanks for the input so far! Yes, the Aebersold series is definitely great and quite exhaustive. I've had Band-in-a-Box recommended too as a useful tool, but I haven't purchased it yet.
I'm just curious if there are other Playalongs out there that I haven't run across....beyond Hal Leonard, Santorella, etc.
Thanks again! Keep 'em comin' if others exist! |

There's a program called Smart Music by Coda Music Technologies that is awesome, but it might be expensive. I had some experience with it during college and loved it! You basically clip a microphone to the bell of your trumpet, you put the smart music disk in the disk drive, load the program and the music will follow your tempo. Very nice software! _________________ J. Fowler

Try Brass Trax by David O'neill. There is tons of great ballads and flugel arrangements. He is offering a free demo from his new website catalog.

I like the Aebersold but find them uneven. That is, some are great to play with, having a cooking rhythm section, and some are boring. I love the Bossa Nova, Miles Davis, and the plain old first volume, and some of Maiden Voyage. |
