Here's a wacky idea: I've got a Jupiter pocket trumpet that's in very good shape. The only problem with it is the dinky 3-inch something bell which keeps it from having a big horn sound. I've also got an old Martin Handcraft with terrible valves. The bell, however, is in great shape.
Could a talented brass repair person transplant the Martin bell to the Jupiter body? The bell tube on the Martin is much longer than the Jupiter's, of course, so there would have to be a seam somewhere. Cosmetics aside, would a 360 degree seam degrade the sound appreciably?
Thoughts, anyone?

Wouldn't it play in a different key? The price would be the only other reason to not do it |

Yikes!
That's some serious custom work for a pocket trumpet. I'm sure it can be done. Isn't the Kanstul the best pocket trumpet out there? Why not just get one of those if you are so serious about pocket trumpeting?
Let me know when you release your first album.

[Homer enters the kitchen and brags to his family about his new job.]
Homer: Look, everyone: now that I'm a teacher, I've sewed patches on my elbows! [shows his elbow]
Marge: Homer, that's supposed to be leather patches on a tweed blazer, not that other way around!
You've ruined a perfectly good jacket!
Homer: Ah -- incorrect, Marge. Two perfectly good jackets. [holds up jacket with patches cut out of the back] |

If you can find an old Monette pcoket trumpet AKA "The Bobcat" if I am not mistaken you might just want to take that for a test drive and leave your other trumpets in tact. I'm sure that pocket rocket has a huge bell! Not sure if it has the constant pitch built in?
In Peace,

I think I've got too much of my grandfather in me. He went broke soldering dimes together to make nickels. _________________ Jim Hatfield

I had a Schaffer pocket trumpet for a while. Scott, the 'Lord of the Third Floor' at Leithold's Piano Co. sawed a bell off of some old beater and gave it to me. I drilled some holes and mounted a few screws and clamps on it, put a little cork around the end and stuck it in the pocket trpt. It had about a 4 7/8" dia. It improved the tuning , and the tone on the low end quite a bit.... jbqd |

I just listed my Kanstul pocket trumpet in the TH Marketplace. Good player -- better than I need in a suitcase horn. _________________ J. Notso Nieuwguyski |

Hi Jim,
If I were you I would check with your friends at Brass Bow and see what they have to say.
Keep us curious folks posted,
