I hope this isn't violating any laws, but I was at a music store yesterday, and they have one of the Yamaha 20th anniversary Xenos still in stock. I don't know how rare these still are, but there were only 50 of them made. I have no interest in it, but it plays VERY nice. Just giving y'all the heads up.
The store is Motter's Music in Canfield Ohio. 330-533-3600
Here's the link to the horn if you aren't familiar with it.

I have played the 20th Anniversary. It seems that it is a 8335RGS with a lightweight 5 1/4" bell. It is a very nice playing horn. There are still several stores that have them - including Ken Stanton Music in Marietta, GA and at the www.trumpettrader.com.
The larger lightweight bell really makes it sing. Ken Stanton had it for slightly less than $3,000.

I have played it and compared to a wall full of Yamaha trumpets and it seemed lighter than the other bells. It may not be as light as my Burbank Benge but it is lighter than the standard Yamaha bell.

Sounds like it would be a nice horn to own and play. Just like heavy weight horns have their place so do light weight bells and ultra light weight bells!!!
My only take on it that is negative is the the idea of just 50 of them what is the point of a Mass Production OEM making 50 of anything might as well not bother!!! What good is the exclusivity if no one can even dream of owning one or if no one will ever hear it play more then likely......It is kind of like the Gold Plated Semi-Auto Commutative Gun in a box with a glass display??? Kind of pointless......Patton had heavily engraved pistols with ivory grips and he used them daily and carried them into combat.....If I wanted a set like his while colt was making them and before the Ivory ban I could order a set just like them. So I could live the dream so to speak! That is my only problem with Yamaha and 50 of them! Most people playing the trumpet probably have a better chance of winning the lottery in their state then running into one of these trumpets and that is a shame! _________________ The only easy day was yesterday! |
