What trumpet/cornet player has the best CD playing in the style of Bix Beiderbecke? I want the sound with modern recording technology. The originals are tinny sounding.
Thanks,

I'm with you, Bobby, no reason you can't look for modern role models. Personally, I'm satisfied with the old recordings, but I would find it interesting hearing any contemporary players who's sounds and styles approached Bix's.
As far as that with modern recording equipment, maybe some recordings of Jimmy McPartland, although the recording equipment would be hardly contemporary, it was certainly improved from Bix's time and McPartland was a Bix disciple.
I don't know . . . if you find any answers, let m know, too. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

I was going to mention Andy as well. A fine player who is totally immersed in this style of music -- lots of video on YouTube of him with many different groups. A pretty good piano player, too! _________________ Jeff Helgesen

FWIW that is the same remastering that was referred to in this post:

That's true. And obvious. But what's the point? There seem to always be comments like this but IMO they leave the original question incomplete, e.g. are there such players and is it worth seeking them out, and can that be a constructive and informative thing to do or is it just a waste of time because there was only one (fill in the blank)? _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Tom Pletcher is a good bet. There are many recordings by him around, and he worked with a band called the Sons of Bix for a number of years.
Give a try to the JSP Bix set. Those recordings are NOT tinny, if played on proper equipment. They were beautifully recorded in mono. Run those through a decent stereo system and they sound fantastic! _________________ Cornets:

I haven't, but he did seem to have had a restless musical mind with a leaning to contemporary "classical" composers. I can't see him going into serialism but he might've moved into a Third Stream direction. He might've moved Gunther Schuler and the boys into a more intuitive and less intellectual directoin. It might've been wonderful. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird
Jeff Hughes who is the cornet player in The Paramount Jazz of Boston. He has a beautiful singing tone!
Sounds great. _________________ Either is fine. My chops always feel great

Me too. I've had the pleasure of hearing Andy (and his buddy Dave Bock on trombone and tuba) play at the IAJRC mid-winter conference jam sessions in Indianapolis every January for the past few years. Andy also plays a mean piano.
One year we had both Andy and Tom Pletcher there, which was a real treat.
Andy always brings a 1920s Conn Victor 80A to play on.
Great stuff! No fair bringing Warren Vache in! Really enjoyed that, thanks! _________________ "There is no necessity for deadly strife" A. Lincoln 1860

Check the sound and the horns that the dudes plays , Warren use a long Benge cornet and the other guy probably a Boston 3 star , do you like the sound ? i belive that is how the trad jazz cornet must sound and for sure this sound you cant get it with a toilet bowl piece .
